Obviously on a dairy farm, the cows are the most important animal to the whole running and daily life of the farm. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are the largest amount of animals on the farm. Not really so anymore, but for a while I’m pretty sure we had many more barn cats than we did dairy cows. Barn cats are kind of funny creatures. They are also some of the most resilient animals I’ve ever seen. It started years ago when we got a few cats from a different home and then they all started having babies and it went on from there. Before we knew it we had around fifty cats. Of course due to unpredictable circumstances our numbers decreased a bit and regrew a few years later. These days we have less than fifty now, but we still have many cats. Sometimes we even get other cats from neighbor farms and sometimes from the woods across the road to help add to our numbers. We even had one that was a very long haired boy who was super nice and pretty and now we have a few more babies running around that are also long haired and pretty. There are a few stories I could get into but are kind of hard to explain so I’m just going to leave it short for today and say that there have been many times one of us have had to save some of the cats and they definitely add excitement to the barn, not that there’s never anything exciting besides the cats.
